The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Bihar minister Nitin Nabin as its new National Working President, marking a significant generational and organisational shift within the party’s leadership. The decision was taken by the BJP’s Parliamentary Board after weeks of internal deliberations.
Party sources indicated that Nabin is expected to be formally elected as the BJP National President next year, likely after Makar Sankranti on January 14, following a precedent set during the elevation of JP Nadda.
Youngest Working President in BJP’s History
At 45 years of age, Nitin Nabin now ranks among the youngest Working Presidents in the party’s history. The appointment reflects the BJP’s strategy to combine youthful leadership with administrative and organisational experience as it prepares for upcoming political challenges.
The move follows recent leadership changes within the party, including the appointment of Harsh Sanghavi as Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat, reinforcing the BJP’s emphasis on younger leaders.

Strong Governance and Legislative Record
A five-time Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), Nabin has served multiple terms in the Bihar government. He first entered the state cabinet in 2021, handling the Road Construction Department, and later held charge of Urban Development in 2024. Following the BJP-led alliance’s recent victory in Bihar, he was again entrusted with the roadways portfolio.
His political journey began in 2006, when he won the Patna West seat with a margin of over 65,000 votes, and later secured consecutive victories from Bankipur.
Deep Organisational Roots
Within the BJP organisation, Nabin is widely regarded as a leader with strong grassroots connect. He has worked extensively with the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), contributing to youth mobilisation and cadre-building efforts.
He has also served as a state prabhari, including his recent role as Chhattisgarh Prabhari, giving him experience in inter-state organisational coordination and strategic planning.

Leadership Backed by Party’s Top Brass
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Nabin on his appointment, describing him as a “hardworking karyakarta” who has “diligently worked to fulfil the aspirations of the people.”
Party leaders believe Nabin’s elevation reflects the BJP’s intent to groom a new generation of leaders while maintaining continuity in its ideological and organisational framework.
