An Indian Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas crashed while performing an aerial manoeuvre at the Dubai Airshow on Friday, resulting in the death of pilot Wing Commander Namansh Syal. The crash occurred around 2:10 PM local time during a scheduled display.
IAF Confirms Incident, Announces Court of Inquiry
In an official statement, the Indian Air Force (IAF) expressed deep sorrow over the loss of its pilot and confirmed that a court of inquiry has been initiated to determine the cause of the accident. Video footage showed the jet wobbling mid-air before losing control and crashing in flames near the airfield perimeter.

Dubai Authorities Respond Immediately
The Dubai Media Office stated that emergency and firefighting teams reached the site within minutes and are continuing operations. The Dubai Airshow Organising Committee extended condolences to the IAF and the pilot’s family.
Condolences From Government and Armed Forces
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed deep anguish over the tragedy and offered condolences to the pilot’s family. The Indian Embassy in the UAE also issued a statement confirming its teams are on-site coordinating with local authorities.
Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and all ranks of the Indian Armed Forces conveyed their grief, reaffirming support for the bereaved family.

About the Aircraft
The aircraft was a Tejas Mk1, powered by the GE F404 engine and operated by two IAF squadrons — Flying Daggers and Flying Bullets. It was one of three Tejas aircraft participating in the Dubai Airshow.
