India scripted history on Sunday, clinching their first-ever ICC Women’s World Cup title with a commanding 52-run victory over South Africa at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai.
India’s Strong Batting Foundation
Opting to bat first after a rain delay, India posted a formidable 298-run total, thanks to stellar contributions from Shafali Verma (87) and Deepti Sharma (58).
Openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma gave the hosts a flying start with a 106-run partnership. Mandhana departed for 45, while Jemimah Rodrigues added 24 before falling to Khaka.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur (20) and Amanjot Kaur (12) couldn’t convert their starts, but Deepti and Richa Ghosh (34 off 24) ensured India ended strongly.
