In a shocking incident in Hyderabad, a 51-year-old sanitation worker employed with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) was allegedly raped by a 45-year-old watchman on a foot over bridge in Erragadda during the early hours of Friday.
According to police, the survivor was on her way to work at around 4 a.m., heading towards AG Colony for her morning cleaning duties, when the accused intercepted her on the foot over bridge near ESI Hospital.
Accused Threatened and Assaulted the Survivor
The police said the accused, reportedly in an inebriated condition, threatened to harm the woman before sexually assaulting her. Following the incident, the accused fled the scene, while the survivor managed to reach a nearby police check post and informed officers about the assault.

Police Action and Investigation
The police immediately alerted the Borabanda Police Station. With the help of CCTV footage from nearby areas, officials identified the accused as a watchman employed at an apartment complex in Model Colony, Sanathnagar.
A case was registered under Section 64 (rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
“The accused was arrested on Friday and remanded to judicial custody,” said SR Nagar ACP SV Raghavendra Rao.

Support for the Survivor
The survivor was sent for medical examination and is currently receiving counselling and assistance at the Bharosa Centre, police officials confirmed.
