The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday criticised Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav after videos of him celebrating Halloween surfaced on social media. The party alleged that Yadav’s participation in a Western festival, after calling the Hindu Maha Kumbh “meaningless,” reflected hypocrisy and disregard for Indian traditions.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the BJP Kisan Morcha (BJPKM) wrote,
“Don’t forget, people of Bihar, this is the same Lalu Yadav who had called the grand festival of faith and spirituality — Maha Kumbh — useless, and is now celebrating Halloween. Those who attack faith will not get votes from the people of Bihar.”

Viral Halloween Video
The controversy began when Lalu Yadav’s daughter, RJD leader Rohini Acharya, shared a video of her father enjoying Halloween celebrations with his grandchildren.
“Happy Halloween to everyone,” she wrote on X, posting clips showing Yadav taking photos of his grandchildren dressed in Halloween costumes.
Past Remarks on Maha Kumbh
Earlier this year, Lalu Yadav triggered outrage when he called the Maha Kumbh festival “meaningless.”
Responding to a media query on the large turnout of devotees in Prayagraj, he reportedly said,
“The Kumbh has no meaning… it is just meaningless.”
His remarks were strongly condemned by BJP leaders, who accused him of repeatedly hurting Hindu sentiments.

BJP’s Reaction
Bihar BJP spokesperson Manoj Sharma said,
“Such statements stem from his politics of appeasement. The RJD has consistently shown disrespect toward Hindu beliefs, and Lalu Prasad’s latest remarks only reinforce that mindset.”
