Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday defended his government’s decision to ban Halal certification, alleging that funds generated through the practice were being misused for terrorism, love jihad, and religious conversions.
Speaking at the RSS centenary celebrations, the Chief Minister said the move aims to dismantle unregulated financial networks threatening national security.
“When purchasing any item, check if it has a Halal certification label. We have banned it in UP. No one will now dare to buy or sell such items,” Yogi said.
He added that over ₹25,000 crore was being earned through Halal certification annually without any recognition from the central or state government, and the proceeds were allegedly diverted to anti-national activities.

Ensuring Transparency And Accountability
Yogi said the ban seeks to bring transparency and accountability to trade practices while eliminating parallel systems that exploit consumers.
“Strict action must be taken against those who misuse Halal certification. We have already arrested Jalaluddin (Changur Baba) in Balrampur as an example,” he said.
He also questioned the silence on what he termed ‘political Islam’, adding that Indian society had historically resisted such ideologies.
Ending Eid Milan ‘To Uphold Secularism’
Defending his decision to discontinue the Eid Milan tradition at the Chief Minister’s residence, Yogi said the move reflects the true spirit of secular governance.
“When I became CM, there were Eid Milan programs at the CM residence and Raj Bhavan, but no Holi or Diwali Milan. We decided that state institutions must remain secular. Anyone can organise these events privately,” he said.
‘All Festivals Are Treated Equally’
Yogi emphasized that his government respects all religions equally.
“Our festivals are celebrated with devotion and pride. Every month, we celebrate something deeply rooted in tradition and history. These festivals unite people across castes and communities,” he said.

Praises RSS’s Role And Ram Temple Construction
Hailing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as a force for national service, Yogi said, “It is India’s good fortune that it has an organisation like RSS, which works selflessly without government aid.”
He also credited the RSS and BJP volunteers for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, describing it as the result of “decades of perseverance, struggle, and sacrifice.”
