Missile Debris Found During Clean-Up Drive in Srinagar
Srinagar – Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have recovered the remains of a Pakistani Fattah-1 missile from Srinagar’s Dal Lake during a clean-up drive on Saturday. The discovery was made by the Lake Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA), and the debris has been handed over to the local police station for further forensic examination.
Traces Back to May 10 Incident
According to officials, the recovered object appears to be remnants from an incident on May 10, 2025, when a missile-like object had landed in Dal Lake, triggering loud explosions and plumes of smoke. Security forces had immediately recovered some debris at that time. Multiple explosions were also reported across Srinagar on the same day, with a similar suspicious object found in Lasjan, on the city’s outskirts.
Context: Aftermath of Pahalgam Terror Attack
The missile incident occurred shortly after India launched Operation Sindoor, a military offensive carried out in retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 civilians were killed. The attack, widely condemned as “inhumane and cowardly,” had prompted a swift response from Indian forces.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had convened a high-level meeting with the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, giving them a free hand to take decisive action. Following this, Operation Sindoor was executed, targeting and destroying terror infrastructure across the border.
Government Statements on Operation Sindoor
During the Monsoon Session of Parliament, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh informed the Lok Sabha that while the armed forces had multiple options, they chose one that directly struck terror bases. He emphasised that the operation was a strategic and firm response to safeguard national security.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing the same session, revealed that three terrorists killed in a separate counter-offensive, Operation Mahadev, on July 28, were directly involved in the Pahalgam attack.
Investigations Continue
The recovery of the Fattah-1 missile remnants has once again brought focus to the volatile security situation in the region. Authorities continue to investigate the debris to determine the extent of its role in the May 10 explosions.
