The Jaffar Express train was attacked on Tuesday near the Sultankot area, close to the Sindh-Balochistan border, when a planted explosive device detonated on the tracks, causing several coaches to derail. Initial reports confirm multiple injuries, though the full extent of casualties and damage is still being assessed.
Rescue teams and security forces have been deployed to assist passengers, treat the wounded, and investigate the origins of the attack. Officials confirmed that the train, en route to Quetta, was carrying passengers at the time of the explosion.
The Jaffar Express has been repeatedly targeted in recent months, highlighting ongoing security challenges in Balochistan. In August 2025, an IED explosion derailed six coaches of the train in Mastung district, leaving a few passengers injured and temporarily suspending services.
Earlier, in March 2025, militants from the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) hijacked the train at Bolan Pass, taking over 400 passengers hostage in a prolonged standoff. Explosives were used to damage tracks, leading to casualties among both hostages and security personnel before the situation was brought under control.
Balochistan continues to be a volatile province, with separatist groups targeting infrastructure, transport, and security forces. The frequency of attacks on the Jaffar Express underscores concerns over passenger safety and regional stability in border areas between Sindh and Balochistan.
Authorities are urging passengers to remain cautious, and an investigation into the perpetrators of Tuesday’s attack is ongoing.
