China on Monday firmly rejected allegations by US President Donald Trump that it had secretly conducted nuclear tests. The Chinese Foreign Ministry dismissed the claims as “baseless” and reiterated that the country has always pursued a responsible and transparent nuclear policy.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated that China “has always adhered to the path of peaceful development” and upholds a strict ‘no first use’ policy on nuclear weapons. She emphasised that China’s nuclear strategy is purely defensive, aimed at safeguarding national security and maintaining global strategic balance.

The response comes shortly after President Trump announced plans for the United States to resume nuclear weapons testing after more than three decades. Trump claimed that Russia, China, Pakistan, and North Korea had been secretly conducting tests and argued that Washington “cannot be the only country that doesn’t test.”
