Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government on Wednesday announced that it has agreed to a full ceasefire with Pakistan and will seek to resolve all outstanding issues through peaceful dialogue, signalling a step toward de-escalation after weeks of border clashes.

According to an official statement issued by Afghan authorities, the understanding includes a complete cessation of hostilities, mutual respect, and a ban on cross-border attacks targeting each other’s security forces, civilians, and infrastructure. Both nations have also pledged to resolve all disputes through bilateral talks.

Background of Recent Tensions
Tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan escalated after a series of deadly explosions in Kabul on October 9, which the Taliban blamed on elements operating from Pakistani soil. In response, Afghanistan launched retaliatory strikes, triggering border skirmishes that led to casualties on both sides, including among civilians.

The new full ceasefire marks the first significant step toward stabilising the fragile relationship between the two countries since the escalation began earlier this month.
