The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made headlines at the IPL 2026 mini auction on Tuesday by acquiring 20-year-old left-arm spinner Prashant Veer for ₹14.2 crore, making him one of the most expensive uncapped players in the tournament’s history.
CSK also matched the same bid for Kartik Sharma, with both players rising sharply from a base price of ₹30 lakh to become joint highest-paid uncapped signings ever at an IPL auction.
Life-Changing Move for Young Spinner
The signing marks a significant milestone in Prashant Veer’s career, as the Uttar Pradesh spinner joins a franchise that has won five IPL titles, joint-most alongside the Mumbai Indians.
Speaking to India Today, Prashant described the moment as overwhelming and unexpected.
“It was truly surprising for me. I hadn’t expected this much,” he said. “I had some conversations with CSK officials, but I didn’t anticipate this level of opportunity. I feel very blessed and excited to meet Dhoni.”

Opportunity to Learn From MS Dhoni
Prashant said his immediate focus would be on learning, particularly from MS Dhoni, who continues to be the central figure in the CSK dressing room.
“I want to learn as much as I can from him—his mindset and approach to the game. Even learning a little from him will be very helpful,” the young spinner said.
Strong Domestic Performances
Prashant enters the IPL on the back of impressive domestic form. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he scored 112 runs in six innings at an average of over 37 and a strike rate exceeding 170, while also claiming nine wickets in seven matches.
