In a major pre-season development ahead of IPL 2026, Mumbai Indians’ pacer Arjun Tendulkar is reportedly set to join Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a potential swap deal, with Shardul Thakur expected to move the other way to Mumbai Indians (MI).
The development was first reported by Cricbuzz, which described it as one of the most significant trades of the upcoming season — second only to the high-profile Ravindra Jadeja–Sanju Samson move.
Possible Independent Cash Deals
While the initial reports hint at a player-for-player exchange, insiders suggest the two transfers could also be treated as separate, all-cash deals rather than a direct swap.
Both franchises are believed to be in advanced stages of discussion, though the final structure of the deal will depend on BCCI’s trade clearance.
Under the IPL trade regulations, only the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is authorised to officially announce player exchanges. This explains the silence from both MI and LSG, even as an official confirmation is expected within the next two days — likely alongside the player retention and release list on November 15 (Saturday).

Shardul Thakur’s Journey with LSG
Shardul Thakur, who captains the Mumbai domestic team, was signed by Lucknow Super Giants for his base price of ₹2 crore after going unsold in the 2025 IPL Mega Auction in Jeddah.
Thakur played 10 matches for LSG last season, taking 13 wickets and contributing modestly with the bat (18 runs). Trusted with the new ball, he was frequently used as a frontline pacer, delivering steady performances throughout the campaign.
Arjun Tendulkar’s Stint with Mumbai Indians
Arjun Tendulkar, son of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, has been part of the Mumbai Indians setup for the last two seasons. Picked at his base price of ₹20 lakh in consecutive auctions, Arjun has played five IPL matches, scoring 13 runs and taking three wickets overall.
He featured in three matches in 2023 and one in 2024, but did not play a single game in the 2025 season.
Due to Mumbai’s star-studded bowling lineup, Arjun found limited opportunities to break into the first XI despite consistent domestic performances.

Domestic Career and Future Prospects
Two years ago, Arjun made a move from Mumbai to Goa in domestic cricket, where he has since played 21 first-class matches.
His switch to LSG, if finalised, could provide him with greater playing time and a chance to develop under a different setup, while Shardul’s return to MI would strengthen their pace department with experience and versatility.
