Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday underscored the Narendra Modi government’s uncompromising approach towards national security, religious organisations, and electoral integrity. His remarks came as the NDA gears up for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, setting the tone for the coalition’s campaign strategy.
‘Anyone Working Against the Nation Will Be Banned’
Shah addressed the issue of the Popular Front of India (PFI) and the opposition’s criticism over its ban.
“Should an organisation like PFI be allowed to operate just because it was founded by followers of a particular religion? Our policy is clear — anyone working against the country or talking about breaking it will be banned,” Shah declared.

He accused the opposition of politicising national security, asserting that “actions taken for the security of the nation should not be viewed through religious lenses.”
Illegal Immigration and Voter Purity
Turning to illegal immigration, Shah linked the issue directly to the sanctity of India’s electoral process amid the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls in Bihar.
“Infiltrators do not have the right to vote in the country,” he said in Hindi, stressing that voting rights belong only to Indian citizens and that non-citizens on voter lists undermine democracy.

Setting the Bihar Election Agenda
Shah’s remarks are seen as a strategic message to consolidate the NDA’s core themes of national security and integrity ahead of the Bihar polls.
By invoking his “Detect, Delete, and Deport” approach toward infiltrators, Shah drew a clear contrast with what he described as the opposition’s vote-bank politics aimed at shielding illegal immigrants.
Political analysts view this as part of a broader attempt to frame the Bihar elections around security rather than secularism, reinforcing the BJP’s ideological stance.
