Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has intensified the political battle over employment by launching a sharp attack on the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and its leader Tejaswi Yadav. Using the social media platform X, Kumar accused the opposition of misleading Bihar’s youth with “false and hollow promises” of government jobs.
Nitish’s Attack on RJD’s Record
In his post, the Chief Minister recalled the 15-year rule of the RJD under Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, describing it as a period marked by corruption and misgovernance. He alleged that during that era, the state treasury was “looted” while the youth were neglected, coining it the era of “Jungle Raj.”

Kumar’s remarks come as the opposition has made job creation the centrepiece of its campaign for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
RJD’s Employment Promises
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has announced a slew of ambitious employment promises, including:
- Regularisation of contractual workers and ‘Jeevika Didis’.
- Monthly salary of ₹30,000 for Jeevika Didis.
- A government job for one member of every family.
- Immediate creation of 10 lakh jobs upon coming to power.
The RJD’s campaign, led by Yadav, positions employment as the state’s most pressing issue, targeting youth unemployment and economic stagnation.

NDA’s Counter and Claims of Progress
In response, Nitish Kumar highlighted his government’s achievements under the NDA, asserting that:
- Over 9.6 lakh government jobs have been created.
- Nearly 39 lakh people have been provided employment since 2020.
- 2.6 lakh teachers were recruited through the BPSC exams in three phases.
The NDA further pledged to generate employment for one crore youth between 2025 and 2030, spanning both public and private sectors.
A Clash of Narratives
The electoral face-off now revolves around two competing visions:
- RJD’s aspirational promise of swift job creation.
- NDA’s claim of steady progress and stability under “Sushasan.”
By invoking the memory of the “Jungle Raj” era and contrasting it with his administration’s record, Nitish Kumar seeks to rally support among voters prioritising continuity, governance, and stability over populist pledges.
