Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday asserted that India has become a symbol of peace, strategic autonomy, and inclusive growth amid rising global tensions, trade disruptions, and shifting supply chains.
‘India Is a Reliable and Stabilising Force’
Addressing the Global Maritime CEO Forum during India Maritime Week 2025, Prime Minister Modi said India’s expanding maritime strength and global partnerships have positioned the country as a stabilising force in a turbulent world.
“When global seas are rough, the world looks for a steady lighthouse — India can become that steady lighthouse,” Modi remarked, emphasising the country’s growing relevance in international trade and logistics.

Maritime Sector Driving India’s Growth
Highlighting rapid progress in the maritime sector, Modi said, “India’s maritime sector is in a very strong position and moving ahead very fast.”
He noted that over the past decade, India’s ports and trade infrastructure have undergone a remarkable transformation, significantly boosting efficiency and global competitiveness.
The Prime Minister pointed out that India’s ports are now among the most efficient in the developing world, performing better than several developed nations in certain parameters.
Next-Generation Reforms and Global Engagement
Modi said the government had introduced next-generation reforms to modernise the maritime framework and replace outdated colonial-era laws.
“We have replaced over a century-old shipping laws with modern, futuristic legislation suited for the 21st century,” he said.
He added that the Global Maritime CEO Forum has evolved into a truly global platform with participation from more than 85 nations, 500 exhibitors, and 350 international speakers.
Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047
The Prime Minister reiterated that India’s maritime transformation is aligned with the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, anchored on four key pillars — port-led development, shipbuilding, seamless logistics, and maritime skill-building.
The goal, he said, is to position India among the world’s leading maritime powers.
The India Maritime Week 2025, themed “Uniting Oceans, One Maritime Vision”, is being held from October 27–31, 2025, bringing together global leaders to discuss sustainable growth, green shipping, and an inclusive blue economy.
