The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday refuted claims of any recent phone conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump. Addressing media queries, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “I am not aware of any conversation yesterday between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump.”
Trump had earlier claimed that PM Modi assured him India would stop purchasing oil from Russia, describing it as a “big step” against Moscow. However, Jaiswal clarified that the last conversation between the two leaders occurred on October 9, during which PM Modi congratulated President Trump on the success of the Gaza peace plan and discussed progress in trade negotiations.
When asked about a possible Modi-Trump meeting on the sidelines of the upcoming ASEAN Summit, Jaiswal said details regarding India’s participation and bilateral meetings would be shared later.

On the issue of energy imports, the MEA reiterated that India’s energy sourcing is guided by national interests and the need to safeguard consumer needs. “Our position has been clearly stated in the official release,” Jaiswal said.
