Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Diwali aboard INS Vikrant, India’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier, on Monday. Addressing naval personnel, he hailed their service and described the occasion as a deeply symbolic and memorable celebration of courage and patriotism.
“Today is an amazing and memorable day. On one side, I have the ocean, and on the other, the strength of Mother India’s brave soldiers,” said PM Modi, highlighting the pride and spirit of the armed forces.
‘INS Vikrant Took Away Pakistan’s Sleep’
In his address, the Prime Minister said INS Vikrant symbolizes India’s naval strength and national pride, recalling how its very name “gave sleepless nights to Pakistan.”
“INS Vikrant’s very name took away Pakistan’s sleep. If just its name could shake the enemy’s courage, that is INS Vikrant for you,” PM Modi remarked.
He lauded the Indian Navy’s role in ensuring national security and recalled the coordination of the three armed forces during Operation Sindoor, which, he said, “forced Pakistan to surrender so quickly.”
Symbol Of Aatmanirbhar Bharat
Calling INS Vikrant a “towering symbol of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Made in India,” PM Modi said the indigenous warship represents the country’s innovation, determination, and engineering excellence.
“INS Vikrant is not merely a warship; it is a testament to 21st-century India’s talent, impact, and commitment,” he said.

Reflecting on his experience aboard the ship, PM Modi said, “The night spent on INS Vikrant was unforgettable. I saw the immense energy and enthusiasm of our naval personnel.”
He praised their discipline, courage, and devotion, saying, “These ships may be made of iron, but the courage of those who operate them turns them into living, breathing forces.”
Pride In India’s Military Strength
PM Modi also spoke about the country’s growing defence capabilities. “I observed the strength of our naval fleet — these large ships, high-speed aircraft, and submarines are powerful symbols of India’s defence readiness.
