Heavy rain lashed Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Tuesday afternoon, causing widespread traffic disruptions and forcing the diversion of 15 flights from Delhi airport.
Officials reported that eight flights were diverted to Jaipur, five to Lucknow, and two to Chandigarh. The sudden downpour also lowered temperatures and darkened skies, offering brief relief from recent humidity but creating chaos on the roads.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued orange and yellow alerts for Delhi, warning of moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Winds of 40–60 kmph are expected in parts of central, southwest, west, northwest, and north Delhi.
Several airlines issued travel advisories due to the weather disruption. Air India advised passengers to check flight status before heading to the airport and allow extra travel time due to slow-moving traffic. IndiGo also warned of possible flight changes and urged passengers to keep contact details updated and check status online.
Authorities have urged commuters to exercise caution on the roads, while the IMD continues to monitor weather conditions.
